Who you gonna call? Isle of Wight's own Ghostbusters
Wight Paranormal investigate supernatural events on the island
David Lowe, 32, and Sharon Tibbert, 38, from the Isle of Wight have launched Wight Paranormal - the island's only business specialising in all things supernatural.
David and Sharon offer investigations at private homes and commercial buildings that have reported paranormal activity. Wight Paranormal undertakes research and offers answers as to whether seemingly spooky goings-on have an earthly, scientific explanation, or if they have more ghostly origins.
There are also monthly events held in buildings and landmarks that are perceived to be sites of supernatural activity, where members of the public can go along and undertake research with the team, in locations such as Brading Wax Museum and Fort Victoria.
David had been unemployed for almost two years, and had struggled to find a job in retail that would fully utilise his skills. Sharon and David had been friends for a number of years, and it was Sharon who introduced David to the world of paranormal investigations. Together they hit upon the idea to combine their interests and set up a business for all things spooky.
Needing some help to get his business off the ground, David contacted InBiz, an organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of self-employment and micro enterprise and attended the office in Grays Walk. David was assigned to a business adviser, who advised him on how to turn a passion into a business, including book keeping, terms and conditions and marketing.
Wight Paranormal is going from strength to strength, and David is wondering if there might be some truth to the claim that the Isle of Wight is the world's most haunted island. "The Isle of Wight has a long history of paranormal activity, and it is certainly keeping us busy. Running a business is hard work, but when it is something that you are passionate about, going to work is a joy. The help InBiz has provided has been invaluable in starting up, and I am very happy that I took the plunge into self-employment."
Zoe Pennington, business advisor at InBiz said, "David and Sharon are shining examples of how to take your existing skills and interests and turn them into an opportunity for self-employment. I worked with them on the paperwork side of running a business, including health and safety, and they are now confident enough to go it alone, although, should they ever need any help in the future, InBiz will be more than happy to help them."
